**New** The Commanders Referral Program (CRP) affords immediate Commanders another tool to affect a positive impact on their Soldiers by giving them authority for an instant financial loan when a Soldier has a valid need. Active duty Soldiers lacking the funds to meet their monthly obligations may request AER funds up to $1000 by submitting a completed AER Form 600 to their immediate Commander. This lack of funds could be for a myriad of complex reasons or as simple as overextending themselves the previous month. Whatever the basis, the immediate (Co/Btry) Commander, or 1SG, must be satisfied that the Soldier's request is reasonable, justifiable, and needed.

AER is a non-profit organization which provides emergency loans and grants to Soldiers in crisis. Financial assistance is generally for emergency food or travel, but may be available for auto repair, insurance, rent, or utility bills. AER is an integral part of the US Army's emergency financial assistance program and is a key element in "Helping the Army Take Care of Its Own." AER provides commanders with a valuable asset in accomplishing basic command responsibility for the morale and welfare of personnel.

To apply for AER assistance, individuals must complete the AER Form 700 and a budget worksheet. Categories of assistance may include non receipt of pay, loss of funds, medical expenses, dental expenses, funeral expenses, required travel, rent, utilities, food, essential POV repair, fire or other disasters and to prevent privation.

IAW AR 930-4, Army Emergency Relief, we are able to assist other branches of service. Local DSN for the Navy and Marine Relief Society is 431.2243.

The American Red Cross now has one standard number for use by families to send an urgent message to a service member: 877-272-7337 (US Toll Free). This means that all military members and their families can use this single number to initiate an emergency communication, regardless of where they live.

For those stationed overseas, the three options for calling will remain the same: calling 877-272-7337 direct, accessing the number through a military operator, or calling the local Red Cross station.
